This may not be 2.5D, but oh well. :D

After seeing this video, I was quite surprised and rather inspired by it. A smooth SSG like this was an excellent idea, and I was surprised that it was pulled off in something such as Left 4 Dead. However, I instantly thought, "This is great, but what if it were put into the Doom engine?" I thought that it'd be possible by using simple faces with sprites as textures, and moving these around with joints. While I'm not much of a modeler myself, I had the ability to do something as simple as this. I fired up Milkshape, and got working on this. Long story short, here's the product.

This is a smoother SSG which functions very similar to the original, though it has been improved with the use of 3D models. These models are HUD models, though they are positioned in such a way that they look to be 2D sprites. The code is a bit messy and the animation is a bit odd, but hopefully it can give somebody the ideas for something like this.

Hmm, that seems to happen occasionally for no apparent reason.
I love the shotgun, though. Could you add a punching altfire to it? :P

Odd. I believe I had fog mode enabled on my PC. I guess that was it, then. It might be doing that because it's not an actual model that stretches out, rather a simple face.

Change the fog mode to Standard instead of Radial. That may fix it.

Always a silhouette for me (edit: when no gun flash). Max ambient light (everything's fullbright), no fog.

Changing fog mode and/or ambient lighting does nothing to resolve the silhouette issue.

Is the first time something like this has been done? If so, it might answer future problems modders may have for something similar.

Hmm..
I don't get the black sprites bug, but they dissapear after reloading and comes back when I walk..
Also, they don't show the smoothed '3D' reloading but rather the default reloading and then it dissapear..
Has anyone else got this too?

edit: Btw, sorry for my bad english

Bump, Do you think it's possible to make this skins folder compatible? I tried and it told me it has a protected lump. Also, the gun isint centered properly.

The silhouette bug's always plagued any models I try to run. Only for HUD weapon sprites. They'd be pure black until I faced a certain direction, or were in a gunflash state.

It seems to be a fog issue. Don't know what exactly it was, but resetting all of my GL settings fixed it somehow.

Would you allow me to make a .GIF with a better animated version? You could use.
