I have to say IX would be my favorite, though I really liked Tactics and X (though some of the battles in Tactics were insanely hard).

WHOAHOLYSHITTRIPLEPOSTWHATTHEFUCKHAPPENEDTOEDIT! also Master Scroll? THE FUCK? YOU PLAYIN DA GAME BOY VERSION. WE the oldfags know it as The offering, also, That Sabin combo, although powerful, is useless, considering that his main game is on blitz. And if I recall correctly 6 out of the 8 blitz attacks rely on Magic Attack (INCLUDING BUM RUSH), so raising Sabin to be an Attack powerhouse is effective only in the short run, as The Offering nerfs your attack, even if you have the Gengi Glove (WHOMG 8 ATTCKS) will only do 7000-8000 damage, RARELY going into OVER 9000 territory.
UH SO. Even Umaro can be useful, somewhat, Mostly Colosseum crap but I only go there to get Ragnarok changed to Illumina (That's Lightbringer to you game boy folks). Point being that while almost every characteer in FF6 is useful (Except for that Umaro bit). EVERY FF7 CHARACTER IS USELESS, considering that the materia system and the way it works gives your characters NO. FUCKING. DISTINCTION. (EXCEPT FOR LIMIT BREAKS, cause i know you're just gonna say that), But it's best to have ALL of your characters mildly strong, except for the party you mainly use, that one's OP, because in reality, The Offering was made for Setzer, YES Setzer, because of the Fixed Dice + Offering combo make him OP.

1-6 were the only decent ones. But as Conflag said, Chrono Trigger is better than all of them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked IX. It was one of the better Playstation Final Fantasies. VII was meh, but I enjoyed it when I did play it.
Anyway I prefer IV, V, VI, and IX out of all the Final Fantasies I played.
