Hi all

I just recently got doom and doom2 and I like them alot. I want to make some mods for doom2 but I have no idea where to start.

for my first mod I just want to slow Doomguy down a bit. not very much of a mod but it gives me an intro.

eventually I would like to mod RGA2 and Doom2 to create a urban combat simulater. I want to have a realistic combat system. for example. bots that have guns will duck(for cover). you wont be able to fly across the room. the health will be lowered drastically and you would have to rely on your teammates to fight for territory.

can anyone point me in the right direction?

Yeah... no. I don't think bots will EVER do that unless Carn finds Botscript.

XWE is a simplistic editor, sLumpEd is capable of post 1995 features without adjustments - a little unstable, though.

The ZDoom wiki details almost every DECORATE function, which is the most common coding and ACS in an editor is for the more advanced.

Bots are a mess right now. Slowing down player movement has been done before by redefining the player character.

thanks for the comments. Do you know of any good tutorials that could help me achieve my goals? or does it not matter? I prefer to use sLumpEd I have used XWE before and it does not care for my computer much.

Well, you could try making your own bots using ACS and Decorate, since the current bots are incapable of crouching/tactics.

Slade 3 is far the best DECORATE editor. Plenty of features, and way more stable than his ancestor SLumpEd, plus, it has the benefit of don't fucking up your wad if you use .png files as XWE does.

For a map editor, I started with Doom Builder 1, to learn the basics first, then migrated to DB2. I suggest you doing the same.

To learn how to DECORATE, you should start looking back at wads made in 2005~2008. You must know how to make a simple wad with weapon and monster replacements, and a few maps.

If I were you, I'd start off with ACS... Then go for decorate. Hey if you need help, then just talk to me on the irc(skulltalk).

Decorate is much easier to pick up so I'd recommend him to learn Decorate more than anything. That is, if he never coded anything before in whatever language.

Just disable running (Autorunning or +SPEED) when setting up the server.
