Is this an improvement to an already-existing feature, or a new feature entirely?
Yes

If an improvement, what original feature is it improving upon?
Survival Co-op

How would this work?
Don't spawn enemies/items/etc. with the co-operative, multiplayer or deathmatch flag in multiplayer survival or co-op. Only spawn actors with the single-player flag.

Can you give an example in how useful this feature would be?
At the moment, certain maps such as map22 in plutonia with hard-doom on ultra-violence is impossible and a flag to make enemies with the co-operative flag not to spawn would make it a little easier and the way the author intended for a player to play that level. It is impossible to do this level with co-op enemies in the level for Survival.

Edit: I had to change the name of the DMFlag due to the way the actual code works to do this.

There already is a DMflag for not spawning multiplayer items. You have to check it because it is unchecked by default. I would agree if this suggestion was for that default to be reversed.

In Whispers of Satan, if you don't check that gameplay options, there's a BFG in the starting room of MAP01

I am talking about co-op placements. NOT multiplayer placements.

...there was no difference between the two in Vanilla Doom. If you place something as Multiplayer, it appears both in Deathmatch and coop, there's no way to set it for just one of them.

He's not asking for no monsters. He is asking for a DMFlag to spawn only single-player monsters, which would be useful for the Survival game mode. Then, Survival would be playable on maps not specificlly made for Survival, but which are made for both Single-Player and Coop, like the maps in doom2.wad, and my own maps.

Agreed.

We already have "Don't Spawn Multi-player Weapons". These have the multi-player flag on them. Why not have another flag that does the same to everything that has a multi-player flag or co-operative flag?

If players are playing on levels with multi-player enemies with the "Don't Spawn Multi-player Weapons", obviously this makes the players have a total disadvantage and with the spawns of these weapons and enemies, changes the way the levels are played all because it is a networked game. Players in multi-player should experience the same exact experience as a player in single-player would!

I would really like to see this implemented, but I don't think it will be any time soon. I might go ahead and make a DMFlag in the ZDoom source and just submit it to Torr.

Vanilla Doom 2 (and I assume Doom 1 as well) has multi-player-only monsters that makes Survival mode harder than it should be, sometimes addding a cyberdemon where none was in single-player.

This option would have a good chance of making Survival more popular.
