Ever wondered what Doom would look like if Bump Mapped? Wonder no more!
I am working on a project with the original Doom and Doom 2 textures that are re-sized and bump-mapped. That means everything looks more realistic. I have screenshots showing off what the WAD will look like!
And I really don't want anyone saying what an idiot I am for trying to change Doom and say it's fine the way it is. Of course it's fine the way is! This is just something I'm doing for fun.
The Final product will be for OpenGL users only. Currently it will work with Software but Floors and Ceilings have will look bad.

That looks like something which would normally be spawned from the mind of H.R. Giger. Cool nonetheless, though.

That's not really bump-mapping.

It looks like it lost more detail then gained... maybe you should show us an in-game screen shot because right now it doesn't look very well done imo

I'll get a screenshot done when I can. The image does look pretty bad because I uploaded it. Expect something tomorrow.

This has been done before. Better too. If this at least had software support, then it'd be fine, but right now this is like Strife vs. Quake.

I'm really not trying to make the most detailed and best wad in the universe.
This is something I'm doing for fun. And the textures would not work in Software either way. The FLATS come out as lines and even if I did put in a /hires/ directory, the colors would be messed up due to all the colors in the image.
I have tried this with textures from other games (like Heretic 2 and Doom 3) and it looks all right. What I'm saying is: Don't expect the best wad ever. Expect an average wad with some nice effects.

Eh... if you put it that way... then sure I'll have a look at it... after all... I do like shiny things . you should add gldefs and make the liquids glow and maybe some bright maps :O (wait a minute... bright maps don't work with hires textures... do they?)

hmm, best program you can use for bumpmap copy+paste is crazybump. The plastic wrap doesn't seem to fit in very well.

Ok, I have decided to also use textures from Heretic 2, like in the screenshot below. The only thing I didn't edit was the sky texture.
The first level (If I make more levels) will be a Canyon themed map. Enjoy!

Goddammit.
I've nothing wrong with high resolution textures in Doom but this looks truly horrible. That is not bump mapping. It's like shrink wrap.

Well, the rock textures definitely do look better than the door texture. That's not saying much, though. The floor looks like it should be under water, and the wall looks like a really jagged sponge. Plus, you can easily see where the textures repeat. This has promise, but it might be a long road until its good.

May I remind you people that this isn't supposed to be good. I'm doing this for mt own pleasure. Yes, you may not like the textures and expect to be in different places. THIS IS BETA. Please give me time to work things out. I know it isn't really bump-mapping, but the technique I used was called bump-mapping.
Please don't expect much from this project.

If it's not supposed to be good why post it?.. Constructive criticism isn't meant to be taken personally, it's meant to be used as a tool to improve the wad so that the community can benefit from it. You yourself will benefit if you listen to it.

Running a dot3 or alike filter over everything alone won't work, you'd have to manually paint in 3D information for the bump mapping to look proper. I'd suggest using a tool like ZBrush, though it's better if you have a drawing tablet or something.
